African American History Challenge Bowl
The 2016 African American History Challenge Bowl will be held Saturday, 2 April at the Doyle Administration Building of the Madison Metropolitan School District.

The 100 Black Men of Madison African American History Challenge Bowl (AAHCB) is an educational program designed to enhance the appreciation and study of African American history. The AAHCB is open to all Madison Metropolitan School District Middle School Students with the goal of encouraging pride, self-worth and an appreciation of the African American legacy and culture.

The AAHCB is also a challenging and fun way for students to expand their knowledge of African American History in highly competitive local and national competitions.

Madison Mayor, Paul Soglin, and Dane County Executive, Joe Parisi, seek nominations for the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. The City and the County each have long histories of honoring deserving individuals who demonstrate leadership and commitment to promoting peace between diverse populations. Two Humanitarian Awards will be presented: one for Emerging Leaders (ages 13-25) and one for Humanitarians (ages 25 and above). The nomination deadline is January 4, 2015 by 4:30 P.M. The FICB culminates in a live, college-bowl tournament where teams compete to determine regional champions. The Madison Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. will stage the Annual Founders Day Ceremony, Saturday, 9 January at the Bonefish Grill, Madison, Wisconsin. Kappa Alpha Psi is college Fraternity, now comprised of functioning Undergraduate and Alumni Chapters on major campuses and in cities around the world. KAP, is the crystallization of a vision shared commonly by the late Revered Founders Elder Watson Diggs,  John Milton LeeByron Kenneth Armstrong, Guy Levis GrantEzra Dee Alexander, Henry Tourner Asher, Marcus Peter BlakemorePaul Waymond Caine,  Edward Giles Irvin and George Wesley Edmonds. Kappa Alpha Psi is the acutation of these astute men that enabled them in the school year 1910 - 11, more specifically the night of January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University at Bloomington, Indiana, to sow the seed of a fraternal tree whose fruit is available to, and now enjoyed by, college men everywhere, regardless of their color, religion or national origin.

A reception celebrating the show, Fresh Perspective will be stage in the Overture Playhouse Gallery on Friday, January 15 from 6-9 PM with live performances on the Rotunda Stage. The Fresh Perspective Art Collective has united to present a fresh male African-American perspective. As fathers, husbands, businessmen and mentors, these emerging and established Wisconsin visual artists seek to curtail the negative portrayal of black men in the media today. This collaboration is designed to expand creative opportunities and tear down barriers that limit success for many of these men and their families. There is no charge for admission and all ages are welcome.

The Wisconsin Women of Color Network, Inc. will host its annual scholarship fund-raising event on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 9am to 4pm at the Double Tree Hotel, 525 West Johnson Street, Madison, Wisconsin. Once a year, an appeal is made to members, family, friends and Community to raise money for the Wisconsin Women of Color Network Scholarship Fund. The public is invited but buffet brunch reservations are required. A Celebration Service for both will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, in the MITBY THEATER at MATC, 1701 Wright Street, Madison, with Pastor Alex Gee officiating.
